2025 Gaming Predictions

2025 is finally here and it couldnt of come quicker. With massive new games announced for 2025 including one of the most anticipated games ever (GTA6) it does feel like a massive year of gaming. So I decided to make a few predictions of what the year of 2025 will bring us.

I have 5 predictions which I will rank from most realistic (5) to crazy unrealistic but could happen in a parellel universe (1) . So lets begin:

5 - GTA 6 will be delayed to 2026
I mean it feels inevitable right? They all shocked us last year with the announcement that it is coming in 2025 and while it is currently still projected for Q3/Q4 I just don't think it is going to happen. Yes Rockstar has spent years making this game but the expectations for this game is more than any other franchise in gaming, it has to be perfect when it's released because that's the standard they have set. GTA 6 is already projected to make $3.2 billion in revenue in its first year which would make it one of the most successful first year revenue games ever (the highest being Genshin Impact with a crazy $3.8 billion), if that doesn't show the amount of pressure on this game I don't know what does. So I think the game will be delayed to make sure it is as polished as possible which is totally fine by me. Also GTA6 in 2026 just has an great ring to it.

4 - Fable is released this year and wins GOTY.

We have been waiting for the new Fable since it was first announced in 2020 and finally it will bless us with it's presence in 2025 as promised. I don't think it will be delyaed as it is rumoured they started working on the next Fable way back in 2018 so it has had plenty of time to cook into a tasty pie. It being developed by the incredibly talented Playground Games who is not only a british company so will understand the fable humour but also produced the Forza Horizon games which have all looked and played great. I know it is a big change in direction from racing games to fantasy but looking at the trailers released they have absolutely nailed what makes Fable, especially if that fight with the giant Richard Ayoade is in the game. For this reason not only will I think this will be Xbox main game this year but I also think it will win GOTY.

3 - Switch 2 is announced and released in 2025 with a new Zelda and Animal Crossing game

The Switch 2 is coming in 2025 that is basically a certainty and it will sell incredibly well no matter what it is released with. The current switch is the third bestselling console of all time with roughly 146.04 million units sold (including switch lite and OLED) only being behind the Nintendo DS and PS2. However while the Switch 2 will now run at 4k and have cool new features, I do think they will need to rely on some big new games to match or beat the sales of the original switch that is why I think a new Zelda and Animal Crossing game will be the answer. The Zelda call is a lot more risker than animal crossing since Tears Of The Kingdom is under two years old but I think it is a must for a new switch console. Breath Of The Wild was the main reason we all brought a switch back in 2017 and only Zelda can convince us to do that again, a new Breath Of The Wild style (or remaster?) in 4k with nicer graphics would be the answer that Mario and Metroid can't provide. Animal Crossing is I think the more concrete prediction though. I think we all know someone who has a switch just to play Animal Crossing, it is a game much like the Sims that breaks video game sterotypes and everyone seems to play it. What better answer is there to release exclusively with a new Switch.

2 - Assassins Creed Shadow will flop and Ubisoft will be forced to sell

The amount of pressure on Assassins Creed Shadow to succeed is astranomical since the failure of Star Wars Outlaws, with Ubisoft seemingly needing it to be profitable in order for it not to be forced to share to majority of its shares to Tencent and the Guillemot family to make it a privately owned business. Two things I think will happen, firstly I think Assassins Creed Shadow will be a good/great game. I think it will be liked by fans and critics and sell well. However I dont think it will sell well enough, Ubisoft has already anounced a 20% decrease in revenue last year and I think the trajectory will continue sadly with the game matching the sales of Odyssey but still being way below the unrealistic expectations of Ubsisoft. This leads to my second prediction forcing Ubisoft shareholders to sell. The rumour in October was that the current majority share holder which is the Guillemot family (20.5%) and current shareholder Tencent (9.2%) will buy the other shareholders shares splitting it 50/50 finally turning Ubisoft into a privately run company. I think however that wont be the case and Tencent will end up being the majority shareholder taking over from the Guillemot family. The family will still be the face of Ubisoft but Tencent will be the one making all the decisions going forward which will probably lead to more transaction heavy games sadly.

1 - Xbox announces their next console will be their last

Okay this is a bit crazy but would it really be that surprising? Xbox has been pushing game pass and cloud gaming more successfully than any other gaming company (remember stadia), they were the first out of the big names to bring a diskless console out and now have released a diskless series X (which I treated myself too for Christmas). They are a very digital heavy platform and now with the release of their new advertisement stating anything can be an Xbox, I can't help but feel an anouncement will be coming in 2025 saying that their next main console (not the rumoured handheld) will be their last. Xbox has always been behind when it comes to console sales and with the massive purchases of Activision and Bethesda followed but the mass lay offs due to budget, you can't help but wonder if the overlords at Xbox will quesiton if their is any real need to make another console now that gamepass is accessible everywhere? It is rumoured that every xbox series S/X is sold at a loss of $100-$200, is that a gamble and budget cautious Xbox wants to risk again when they can now focus more heavily on exclusivity on Gamepass due to all the studios they now own. It is crazy I know but not unrealistic right?

Well thats my predicitions for 2025. It will be a really intresting year for gaming and I am excited to see what ends up being true or false. Let me know your predictions and what you think will be the craziest gaming news in 2025.
