Cuppa's Gaming Obsessions
We all have them few games that we always come back to. It may be the incredibly addictive Fortnite, or the obsessive Stardew Valley, or a game that when you have no idea what to play you always end up booting that one up. I decided to look at my brain melting obbsessions and bring them to the therapy that is this blog. So sit back and enjoy, and be in comfort knowing you are not alone when it comes to spending way too long on a game.
FIFA (Currently FC24)
Ahhh FIFA how I have spent many evening playing this game while watching a movie or show in the background. But my obsession is not with Ultimate Team, I find that a crappy scam, but instead with the wonderful manager career mode.
You see every year a new FIFA (or now FC but I will still call it FIFA in this post!) is released which means the now older version is moved to game pass which I happily pick up. Then I create a team in the lowest english league which will either be based on my hometown or a show I like. I will then begin the very long process of bringing the team up the leagues, finding special talents who become core to my squad or saying an heartbreaking goodbye to a veteran as he retires or leaves, before finally winning the premier league and claiming my dynasty. I love it, I will spends hours in the evening playing matches, trying to push through risky transfers or adjusting my squad formations. I also play matches on the hardest difficulty which means that I have to work for promotion and trophies every time which does sometimes lead to rage quitting I have to admit.
Currently my newest team has just been promoted to league one by managing to win the league two trophy by beating Wrexham in an incredibly fierce battle that went on during the entire season. I had lost two of my star strikers through injury and in a desperate attempt managed to find a striker on a free transfer, little did I know my new striker is an absolute monster in front of the goal and scored 30+ goals that season. This is the kind of stories that FIFA can provide you and makes it so easy to pick it up when you just want something to play. The fact you can play a match for 10 minutes and then close it down again is also great benefit as you can always find time for a quick game of footy.
BALATRO
Why did I download this game on my phone..... It took over my evenings when I was playing it on PC but now my life is consumed with this game. During my lunch break, Before a movie starts at the cinema, while waiting for my friends at a bar, no matter where I am I will always find a reason to open up Balatro and play a few hands.
The game just scratches that beautiful itch in your brain during the gameplay and when you pull off a massive joker combo as see the score just keep rising I generally start to question if that feeling is better than an orgasm.
Luckily I am not the only one who has got lost in the obsession as it took over the world with its poker hands and joker cards. It did extremely well at the game awards last year and shows no signs of slowing down with constant cool collabs with other games.
It is so impressive such a simple concept could be such a big success but thats completely due to the fact that the developer LocalThunk made such a good and addictive game and for that I both love him (for the hours of fun) and hate him (for it taking ove my life).
Halo Infinite Multiplayer
This one is a newer one for me and one I don't regret at all. You see a few months ago I started getting a lot closer too two friends of mine. We had always enjoyed each others company at parties but only recently started to just hang out with each other. They are a great couple and both are very much into Halo, especially the esport scene. So one evening they came over to my place and we all stayed up till 3am watching a tournament and I instantly got hooked back into Halo.
I booted up a few matches on Halo infinite and while I am in no way great, I do always do pretty well in matches. Then during one match in particular I picked up a gun called the skewer (a weapon that instant kills when hits but very hard to use) and managed to get a diving double kill with the gun......in that moment the obsession hit.
What I love about Halo multiplayer more than COD and the battle royals is the pace of it. Halo is fast but I am not completely lost in an ocean of quick moving enemies when in combat. Yes you can jump, slide and grapple but it is never over in two milliseconds and you always have time to at least react when attacked. I always feel like I am doing okay in Halo where as COD I just run and pray.
The modes as well are a lot of fun with them going from classic capture the flag, to brutal hallway skirmishes, and gun game style modes. I always find a match fresh even when I played the mode way too many times.
Yes Halo infinite multiplayer has a lot of problems. The microtransactions are a complete mess and some of the arenas are way too boring but at its core it is a super fun online shooter and the only one I would always be happy to hop onto.
Cyberpunk 2077
Now this is the game that is more than just an obsession but literally means the world to me. I have tried so many times to write a post on Cyberpunk 2077 and my absolute love of this game but never seem to do it justice. I will write one eventually but for the moment this will nicely do.
I have played over 500 hours on Cyberpunk and I have no plans of stopping playing it anytime soon.I love every inch of Night City and the characters that live there,I love the stories that unfold while you explore the world and the fun adventures that unravel while just traveling to your objective. This game is special to me in so many ways.
However this time we are just talking about why I am obsessed with it and its simple. The world, story, voice acting and characters are some of the best in gaming. Night City is the ultimate playground and after a while you feel truly at home in it. The combat is next level using hacks and body mods to truly become the ultimate killing machine and V herself ( I always play female V) is just the ultimate badass especially when her and Johnny get along.
I adore this game and everything about it. I will listen to lore videos while exercising and will always jump on the game on a weekly basis. I am so obsessed it is currently the reason I have stopped playing Expedition 33, a game I was crazy hyped for as I saw a side mission I haven't done yet in dog town so created a new V and started a new campaign for it. Yes I'm obsessed and I don't regret it one bit !
So that is my gaming obsession at the moment. More will come and some will go but I will say it is such a luxury at the moment to have all these great games to play and even more are on the horizon. It's a great time to be a Gamer !
